New Logo

As you can probably tell, I am more at ease working on visual effects and other graphical aspects, than on writing and so forth.

One thing I have been working on is doing a new version of the logo I had quickly put together, based upon the old Pertwee/McGann logo. The version below is the original version that I did, and used for the second version of the title sequence.

As you can see, it wasn't that bad. But it isn't that great when compared to the title sequence. So, I set to work on updating it a bit more.

And here is the result:

Click on the image for a slightly larger version. One thing that has made this new version possible, is that I have finally found the font that was used to create the logo. The original one I did, I had to create it via Photoshop and using vector paths.

With the font, it cuts out a massive amount of time so I do not have to fiddle around with other things and can get straight to designing the logo I want.

I think it looks much better. I haven't inserted the logo into the title sequence yet, but it won't be too hard to do so. I like the look of this much better, with it's nice contrasting blue and the slight chrome style texture I added to it.

Finale Plotted

Since the return of Doctor Who in 2005, the series has had increasingly bigger and more epic finales to end each individual season. The problem with this is that the finales are becoming too epic in scope.

The task I set myself was to write a finale that is epic enough, but is still a contained story that isn't too epic to alienate the viewers. Hopefully the story I have come up with for the finale of my fan series will fulfill these requirements, whilst giving a satisfying conclusion to the first season.

One thing about the finale is that I had begun coming up with the basic story first and even used the story to test out 'The Movies' to see if I could accomplish what I wanted to do with the series. Character interactions, special effects, sound effects, camera angles, pacing and more were all put through the wringer to see if I could possibly do a basic Doctor Who series.

Along with coming up with the story first, it was also going to be the first story I was going to make and was to originally be my series premiere. I however, felt that the story was too good to waste on an introduction piece and so shifted it back originally to mid-season, and then finally, the ending.

This has worked out well because I fleshed out the character I came up with for the companion, as originally the companion had been traveling with the Doctor for some time. Now, the series premiere introduces the audience to the companion and we follow her story together, like any proper companion/audience relationship should.

I'm quite happy with the finale. Maybe you'd like a hint towards the story? I'll give you three:

1. It will feature a new enemy, that I hope may make a return visit at some point in the future if I continue past the first season.
2. An old ally from the classic series will return for this episode.
3. The finale will be set in London.

Title Sequence Update

I've been a bit busy in recent weeks, so I haven't had much time to do anything regarding Doctor Who. What I have had time to do though is work on the title sequence a bit more, changing a few things here and there so that the end result is a lot more pleasant.

As you can see, i've added a new logo based upon the Pertwee/McGann logo, and have changed a few things such as timing and so forth. Another thing of note is that I actually went and got a version of the theme music to use.

All in all, a fair bit better. Another thing that you might have noticed is the name of the episode, which is "Skinwalker". This is the name of the first episode of the series, and will feature the Doctor meeting his new companion in a nice setup episode, which I have completed the opening sequence for.

I might put that up at a later date in anticipation of the release of the episode, or part of a compilation of shots from the series. Until I do, you will have to make due with the title sequences. Enjoy.

Doctor Who?

I have started to create a Doctor Who fan series, and at the moment it is going along quite nicely. I have a general outline of where I want the short series to go, with some genuinely good ideas, and have started to write at least two scripts.

Every episode will be put up on YouTube, so that means that each episode will be roughly 10 minutes long for single parters, and longer for multi-parters of which there will be quite a few including what I intend to be the season finale.

Since the runtime is so short, a title sequence that is equally short yet memorable needed to be made. So I began work on one recently, and have now finished the first version of it. Check it out:

The sequence isn't finished yet, as I obviously need to tweak it a fair bit still. Things to tweak will be:

1. The flight of the TARDIS, as I am not quite happy with it yet.
2. Getting a version of the theme tune to go with it.
3. Fixing the 'Doctor Who' logo (which isn't really a logo), and it's timing.
4. Changing the timing of the episode title and by-line.

After those things are done, and once the first few scripts are finally complete, I will begin casting some voice actors. One thing I will be doing is getting the voice actors to provide me with two profile shots of themselves, so I can try to match their characters appearance to their own so that they are essentially in the episodes. Which would be quite a nice thing for them, I suppose.
