About

Film Australis is the production name that I use for most of my video projects. For a long time, I have been a fan of various film genres such as horror and science fiction, and for a number of years have tried to pursue some creative projects relating to these and other topics that interest me.

To this end, I began a number of years ago creating various small adventure games using the Adventure Game Studio (AGS) which were received rather poorly... mainly because that was the intention I had with them. I made games that were specifically to annoy people, under the banner tdrDESIGN.

The title card... and the
ONLY screen from 'No, I Am Spartacus!
The most notable game being one called 'No, I Am Spartacus' which featured the classic scene from the 1960 Spartacus film, turned to the extreme. This was the entirety of the gameplay and it annoyed many people who played it, eventually earning itself the P3N1S Award during the 2005 AGS Award ceremony which is awarded to the worst game of the year made with AGS.

Rather proud of that one.

A few stumbling blocks, such as losing the hard drive which featured the source code of a number of games in development including a Doctor Who game, a sequel to my 'Lifeboat: Story of Cedrick' game as well as sequels to 'Brad Bradson I: Key Quest and Pennis: The Ultimate In Pong... and my game making days were cut short. I do go back to work on things occasionally, mainly as a way to let off frustrations I have with other projects, but these are mainly for my own enjoyment.

Other projects I have begun to work on over the years include a horror movie called 'Red Christmas' which I intended to shoot using my friends. A number of these friends moved away, and a cinematic I had made using 'The Movies' to storyboard ideas was also lost with the hard drive crash I had, making most of my enthusiasm for the project die with it.

I however would love to one day go back to this project and work on it again. When this might occur? I am not sure.

Beginning in 2011, I started work on a series of toy reviews, focusing on the incredibly cheap toys you can find at budget stores. This series is currently on hiatus until I can reshape the format of the show.

Other things I have made are a number of tutorials ranging for things to do with Adobe After Effects, dealing with getting old Rugby League games running on modern software and a number of other things. One such video is an introduction sequence I created based upon the hit 1980's television show, MacGyver.

The theme music was composed by a noted Youtuber by the name of Sylvain Cloux, who does a number of metal themed versions of old TV themes. I heard his version of the MacGyver theme and began working on it immediately and I think it turned out quite well.

The thing that was most difficult about the above video was creating the title card, since the font used in the original sequence was custom made and never released. I had to substitute it with something similar and then adjust it in Adobe Photoshop, which took some time.

The Future?

What does the future hold for Film Australis? Hopefully, 2012 will see the release of my Doctor Who series as well as the release of some other small projects that I am working on. Who knows really what might happen? I just hope that nothing goes wrong that stops my creative flow like previous years have had.
